Post SkyRace life thankfully got back to normal and I was able to focus on things which really matter for me again. My first stop on the 2013 FWQ tour agenda was in Verbier. There the Verbier Freeride Week took place as the latest introduction of the 2013 FWQ competition season. It was organized by the Freeride World Tour crew between the 14th and the 20th of January 2013. This full week of freeride competitions allowed amateur riders like me to score 3 FWQ results, all in one week and gave the possibility to a great number of riders to enter the FWQ ranking and seeding list. The events unfolded on faces to be found in the whole Verbier St-Bernard destination, in resorts such as Verbier, Bruson, La Tsoumaz and Vichères.
Jannick (12th place), Vogi (5th place) and I (8th place) participated on Saturday at the FWQ 2* event in Bruson. The weather was surprisingly well that day and the face presented itself in an untracked powder skirt. It felt good to be surrounded by some friends on my young FWQ journey. Vogi went extreme and threw down the first line, starting off with a smooth cab 1 at the first feature. Jannick went next, but unfortunately did not land his front 3 at the first feature. I as well underestimated the distance of the first feature and crashed into the counter hillside. After that I chose a fluid line peppered with a nice double wopper in the middle section which still was enough to reach a fair score and an 8th place as a season kick-off. After the competition we all went shredding the local forests, which was indeed a lot of fun. Bruson has great open forest lines to offer. A true and very fun alternative to the crowded and immediately tracked out Verbier slopes. My next stop will be Silvaplana for the 4* Engadin Snow this week. Things will start to become a bit more serious. I am keen and very much looking forward at the same time to throw down my line on Forcla Face for the qualification and hopefully North Face Corvatsch for the finals. Conditions will be all-time.
